Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
The Travelex claims website required that I file a claim to get copies of the doctor’s form and then had to start all over again once the doctor completed the form. It would been easier initially to go to a page setup up for downloading forms.
With the necessary forms in hand, filing online was fairly easy and the claim was approved within two weeks.

After waiting 10 weeks for a response.....our claim was denied. Apparently terminating the trip early due to a worldwide pandemic and borders closing down was not a good reason. Warren Buffet should be ashamed of himself!!! No matter how I justified our claim the rep said a pandemic is not included in any of their policies.
I'll be sure to find insurance elsewhere for our next vacation.

Thank you for your feedback. The insurance provider has issued the following response:
"Thank you for expressing your concerns on InsureMyTrip.com.
Please note that Travelex Insurance Services, Inc. is the marketer of the travel insurance plans and does not make any claim determinations. Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (“BHSIC”) is the underwriter and the Claim Administrator for all claim or appeal related inquires.
In the policy details, which were sent to you on August 31, 2019 when the policy was purchased, it explains all the eligible reasons for trip cancellation, including the terms, limitations, and exclusions. Which includes the General Exclusion “(d) any government regulation or prohibition”.
Having said the above, we do empathize and recognize that coronavirus has created a difficult situation for travelers.
We recommend talking to your Traveler Suppliers about transferring any monies paid to a new trip. Additionally, it may be possible to obtain a Date Transfer on your policy, which allows you to apply the plan to another trip, in the future. If you would like to apply a One-Time Date Transfer to your policy, please contact us at [email protected], so we can help process the cancellation of your claim and apply a One-Time Date Transfer to your policy.
It is important to remember that insurance is highly regulated. Claims need to be processed according to the policy details and based on the documentation submitted to the Claim Administrator.
If you believe all or any part of your claim was wrongfully rejected or denied, you have the right to have your claim re-reviewed by BHSIC, if you are able to submit additional documentation. To submit new documentation or for claim questions, please contact BHSIC at 1-855-205-6054 or by email at [email protected], Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 7:00 pm CST.

Our trip was cancelled due to the whole Covid-19 pandemic. We therefore did not need to use the insurance and requested a refund. While it is true that our policy stated that no refunds unless canceled within 15 days of purchase, and we requested the refund after 15 days, these are extraordinary circumstances, completely beyond our control and through no fault of our own. Other companies, such as ALLIANZ Insurance are offering refunds to its customers despite contract terms to the contrary.
There is nothing we, as consumers, can do except choose to do business in the future with other companies. We of course will not use insuremytrip.com or United States Fire Insurance Company for any future travel or other insurance needs.

I filed my claim on 2/25/20 and turned in all requested documents on 3/19/20.
I didn't receive any updates on the status of my claim until 5/14/20 when it was updated on the claim status website. I had sent emails and tried calling (without success since there was a 2 hours waiting time, and I left my call back number when requested, but no one would call back) several times.
Little disappointed about how long it took to process the claim. More than that, that I didn't receive updates during this time.

We appreciate you providing feedback. The travel insurance industry has been experiencing an increased volume of inquires and claims due to the COVID-19 pandemic and have been trying their best to address all requests in the order in which they are received.
My claim was denied during the COVID-19 global pandemic during the height of government lock downs and a time that was literally impossible to travel.
I filed a claim on April 22, 2020 for our honeymoon travel to the U.K. between May 9th- May 23. I took nearly a month to get back to me May 21st (which is some what reasonable because I am sure they have been swamped with claims). I booked the travel myself which made it a pain to file the claim.
In the end I was denied because the policy didn't mention "pandemic" specifically but it does mention natural disasters and quarantines. In their review they stated that a travel embargo is not a quarantine but that seems like lawyer speak to me. To be honest, I would not have even known to look for specific pandemic text when I planned the trip last September.
I feel like my claim got "lawyer-ed" which I guess is what happens in the insurance world but I will never use any service of Nationwide's again and I would not recommend their service to any one.

On paper, International Medical Group and iTravelInsured offer a good product at a reasonable cost. However, their claims process is one defined my delay, dishonesty, and obfuscation. Policy language is misapplied. Policy definition is misconstrued. Policy requirement is ignored.
My claim was partially denied based on their team's misunderstanding of the product and their misreading of Policy definition. My attempts to initiate the informal and formal grievance processes defined in the Policy were repeatedly blocked. Eventually, the claim was fully covered as a "goodwill gesture".
I recommend spending a little more for a better brand. It will be less headache and heartburn in the end.

Pandemic resulted in resort closing and a trip interruption. We filed a claim. They initially denied it as IMG's legal staff advised them that "a global pandemic is not a natural disaster..." - which is not true and also not relevant to the claim (its simple trip interruption). Appealed the claim and in what seems to be a permanent hold. Absolutely horrible support from carrier - in any other climate, this would have been approved immediately...
Also, very disappointed in Insuremytrip.com - they should be screening their companies better and stepping in on their client's behalf

Yes, an update is in order...almost 5 months to the day of filing the claim. IMG sent me a check...InsureMyTrip reached out to IMG to ensure they stepped up their customer service and the claim was properly paid. Would I use InsureMyTrip again? Yes...they really helped.
My feelings about IMG remain about the same, they paid because they had to and their options were limited...4 1/2 months late

I had an emergency appendectomy the day my husband and I were to leave on an extended and expensive trip. It was obvious that the insurance should cover the trip. They received my claim on February 18 - and required a HUGE amount of paperwork, including our marriage license to show proof of relationship, and the payment was made May 12. There WERE extenuating circumstances (the business was hit with a malware attack and then of course the coronavirus). However, they kept on asking for additional information which they already had, but in a different format, and THEN finally, after numerous phone calls, they passed it on to another underwriter because of the size of the claim. That took an additional 3 weeks. Insure My Trip was of NO HELP. They sell the insurance and then you are on your own. I will not use either company again.

We purchased trip insurance that included trip cancellation. What a total waste of time and an obvious twisting of words by Nationwide to avoid paying a claim. This type of result is what gives insurance companies a bad name. I reviewed our policy in detail before filing our claim. Our cruise was cancelled by Holland America back in April due to Covid-19. This is the reply we received from Nationwide.
"Because the Coronavirus/COVID-19 is not one of the named perils listed in the plan, we are unable to consider this to be a covered claim. Regrettably, your claim does not qualify for reimbursement based on this reason"
Following the above statement, Nationwide lists what they do cover.... see below...
The policy you purchased provides the following benefits:
"Quarantine means Your strict isolation imposed by a Government authority or Physician to prevent the spread of disease. An embargo preventing You from entering a country is not a Quarantine"
Do you see the problem here? They are picking and choosing (spinning) what they will cover. The Govt prevented cruising due to the spread of disease, but because their verbiage doesn't specifically say Covid-19, it doesn't qualify.
What a crock of BS! I will be filing a complaint with the department of insurance. I will NEVER purchase travel insurance from Nationwide again. In my opinion, they stole money from me in selling me a policy that was worthless!

The claim was for Trip cancellation due to illness.
The good part is that they spotted an inconsistency in the Doctor's Report and, instead of just denying the claim, they sent a clarification email with a form for the doctor to fill out. Once this form was returned to them, they paid promptly and fairly. So they actually care about their customers.
The bad part is that it took them 10 weeks just to look at the claim after I filed it. And most of that was before the Pandemic.
So expect to be treated fairly, but don't expect fast service.
