Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
Difficult to actually rate either the company or the plan without having filed any claims. The actual proof of how good or bad the company is , has to do with how responsive they are in handling claims.

The industry standard is for travel insurance providers to offer the pre-existing condition waiver if you purchase their policy within 10 to 21 days (depending on plan) of your initial trip payment. There are some exceptions such as the Nationwide Mutual Choice or Luxury Cruise plans which go by final payment:
"The Pre-Existing Conditions exclusion is waived if the Insured (a) enrolls in this Policy within Final Trip payment; (b) purchases this Policy for the full cost of his or her Trip; and (c) is medically able to travel at the time the premium is paid."
Unfortunately you purchased this Choice Cruise plan on 01/29/2019 which was the day after you made your final payment, so you did not qualify for the Pre-Existing Conditions Waiver.
InsureMyTrip is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Customer Care is available to assist you by phone at 800-487-4722, or by chat, Monday - Friday, 7am-12am EST and Saturday - Sunday, 9am-9pm EST.

I called before the trip with a question regarding cancellation and spoke to two different people of which neither of them answered properly and were more concerned with not obligating the company

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our records do indicate that you contacted InsureMyTrip on the day before you departed on your trip questioning if a family member, who was not on your policy, was unable to go on the trip due to a medical issue. Our customer care representative read to you the terms of the policy then transferred you to the claims department to report your claim. Although it is not unusual for customers to expect a determination of coverage with that phone call, coverage can only be confirmed by the travel provider and only after reviewing claim documents.
In the future, if you are looking for guidance in selecting a travel insurance plan, please consider contacting our office at 800-487-4722 where a licensed representative would be happy to assist you.
