My friend had to see a doctor while on-board ship. When she contacted CSA in this regard, they walked her through what was needed for reimbursement. After complying with needed documents, she received a check in the mail the following week after they received her claim. We are most satisfied with the professionalism and speed of payment.

How can I review this plan fairly when (fortunately) I had no occasion to make a claim? It covered (I think) the risks that I needed protection from. But the real test would have been whether I DID need some portion of the coverage and thus had to make a claim. So my review is based solely on the scope of (apparent) coverage and my totally subjective judgment of the cost.

I was supposed to go to Istanbul and Greece the day the attack happened on the Ataturk Airport. After landing in Germany and being directed back home, I thought I would get my money back from CSA. However they refused to reimburse me for the airfare (because I used the ticket). I don't understand the virtue of buying a policy that doesn't cover your airfare unless you don't use it. Isn't the point of buying trip insurance to cover you for unforeseen circumstances? Now I get to start saving for my trip all over again.

    "We’re sorry to hear that your vacation was interrupted. We’ve reviewed your claim and a member of our team has reached out to you to explain why your claim wasn’t payable. Although the terrorist act was a covered event, we cannot reimburse for the flight once a traveler has departed. Trip Interruption does not cover used airfare; however, it does cover the unused arrangements you included on your claim. We aim to ensure our customers understand the coverage details of our plans and strongly recommend they review a sample Description of Coverage/Insurance Policy that is provided at purchase. We also offer a free look back period with all of our plans to allow customers to cancel their policies within a designated period as long as they haven't already left on their trip or filed a claim. Thank you."

The last leg of my flight from London was cancelled because someone set fire in air traffic control center at OHare. I was stranded overnight in Chicago with many others and couldn't get rental car home til the next morning when my rescheduled flight was also canceled. CSA refused to cover rental (even though United Airlines would not pay) because they said it was not a mechanical breakdown of aircraft or terrorist incident. InsureMyTrip.com rep said even though it was not technically covered, "I couldn't imagine the insurance companies we represent to not offer some sort of compensation or assistance." CSA std response is get a plan to fit your needs, but they couldn't tell me any plan that would cover my situation. What good is insurance if it won't cover that?

While the situation you experienced did result in a payable Travel Delay claim, we apologize for being unable to reimburse you for your Trip Interruption expenses. The terms and conditions of our Trip Interruption coverage require that your flight be delayed by mechanical breakdown, inclement weather or an unannounced strike. Acting as your advocate, InsureMyTrip contacted CSA Travel Protection's claims department to assist you with the claim that went unpaid. The representatives at CSA Travel Protection informed us that the claims were adjudicated in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy.

      Comprehensive plans are designed to cover as many risks as possible, but is very rare for any insurance plan to cover all possible risks. The CSA Travel Protection
      Custom plan is a Comprehensive plan which covers a wide range of perils and hazards for Travel Delay and Trip Interruption. Unfortunately, it was determined that the event that interrupted your trip did not fall within the scope of Trip Interruption for this specific plan.
