Flight was delayed from Cartagena to Miami resulting in our missing our connecting flight home to Philadelphia. We had to pay for a hotel room in Miami that night. Submitted a very modest claim for a hotel room for less than $100. Was even able to obtain a written letter from AA verifying that our flight had been delayed. Nationwide has not been responding to my inquiries a month later. Claims processing is apparently backed up. Insuremytrip.com, which is always responsive, indicates processing is taking 90 days. To me that is so far below any reasonable standard of customer service, especially for such a simple and small claim, that I would not use this insurer again.

My wife and I had to use the doctor while on vacation and Nationwide did pay what my primary medical insurance did not cover. BUT I did not like is the paper work required. Here is an example of what they asked for: "...flight booking confirmation with dates of travel, cost and proof of payment which identify you as the traveler and document your entrance into and exit from the country or countries where medical services were received..." my first response was how the heck to I do this! I ended up sending the receipts from the airlines and that worked. The also wanted the EOB from my primary medical - once they got all of the info they did pay out just a few days later.
Just a lot of electronic "paper work" to get there.

Our claim was processed very fairly, but took a very long time. Apparently, our optimum email address was not supported by Nationwide and by the time we realized this, an additional month had lapsed.

The documents required to provide proof of payment trail was overboard. Coverage for Covid related expenses was greatly insufficient. However, review and response was faster than I was initially informed.

Every Insurance plan looks good before you need to use it. When it's needed you really get to see what the company is all about. I wIll NEVER chose this company for travel insurance again. My father passed away and we were unable to take the trip we planned. This company just compounded our grief several-fold. Nationwide strung out the claim process, asking repeatedly for information that I wasn't even asking reimbursement for ( airline tickets). Icelandic air reimbursed me within 3 days when I called to cancel the flight due to my fathers death. They did not have to do that but they did. I never requested airline reimbursement from Nationwide. I was assured 2x's with my phone calls and inquiries that they had everything they required and the claim was being processed, and being reviewed by an adjuster. Today the day the check was to be mailed, low and behold another email asking for an airline agreement. Today I was feed up and called INSUREMYTRIP to be my advocate, they contacted the insurers rep and guess what, they again requested the airline agreement that isn't required. Always buy your travel insurance through this agent, then if problems arise you have an advocate. Chose a different provider than Nationwide. As a side note, my fathers life insurance policies all paid before this travel insurance policy.

What can I say. This company is great. I had to place a claim due to my wife losing her job just 3 months before our cruise was to take place. All the representative were very friendly and knowledgeable. I received all the information needed (via email) to file a claim within minutes of completing my call.
After all the information required by Nationwide was received by them my claim was processed and paid in full to me within their normal process time required.
I have used them in the past and continue to use them today for all my travel needs.

The response time from Nationwide is horrible. It is a minimum of 3 weeks to get a response via email. When I finally got my claim approved after SEVERAL months, the amount received was less than what we claimed with no explanation given. Avoid Nationwide at all costs. It will save you a lot of headaches, stress, and time.

You never know about any insurance plan until you have to use it. We did. We had to cancel a cruise due to an unexpected medical event. I put the claim in and it was paid out in full. So, what's the problem? We knew *nothing* about the status of the claim until the check(s) arrived in the post! In this age of fast communications, something as simple as an email to let us know what was going on would have been sufficient.

This review should be titled "You know how to write the insurance, you just don't know how to service it". During a recent cruise my wife required some non-emergency medical attention. when I returned from the trip three days ago I attempted to call this company to notify them of this claim. They tell you via a recorded message , that due to extremely high volume, you should either mail or email information to them or use their website. I emailed them 3 days ago and have not heard anything since. I attempted to use their website, filling in all required information in an attempt to obtain a claims form, but after doing that received a message that "this form is not available for download". Another call to their toll free number told me to press one in order to obtain a claims form, but that resulted in me being disconnected. So this company was extremely efficient at accepting my premium dollars, but when it comes to speaking to someone regarding actually submitting a claim, they are not to be found. I'll try to follow this up at a later date to update on any progress, but so far, count me as a very dissatisfied customer. Should someone contact me and pay this claim, I'll be glad to adjust my ratings.
Revised 4/03/2023. I was finally able to obtain the form to submit the claim. I sent them all of the documentation that they asked for. It took about one week until I received an acknowledgment that the claim had been received. After that, it took approximately three more weeks until I received the check for the full amount of my claim without any quibbling . So, aside from the initial delay in communication, they have handled this claim satisfactorily and I would now recommend this plan.

My wife got injured two weeks before our scheduled cruise. I submitted all the paperwork and documents as requested online. Never had to talk to a person. We received the refund checks 3 weeks after submittal and got everything we asked for since we had the documentation. Thanks to Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company for the very quick response and positive outcome. I have already purchased another plan from them for our next trip based on the response for the last one.
