    It is industry standard to cover baggage delay on the outward journey only to reimburse you for the expense of necessary personal effects while you are traveling.

All insurance companies are bogus. Now I know about trip delay. They don't reimburse you for anything unless the flight was delayed 6 hours or more. We misses our transfer flight and delayed our tour and got nothing back.

    Although we respect your opinion, it is important for travelers to understand that not every situation will be covered by your policy. This is why we present the entire Certificate of Insurance for you to review prior to purchasing the policy.

    According to your Certificate of Insurance, the Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential provided you with the following coverage:

    "TRIP DELAY"

    "The Company will reimburse You for Covered Expenses on a one-time basis, up to the Maximum Benefit shown on the Confirmation of Coverage, if You are delayed, while coverage is in effect, en route to or from the Trip for six (6) or more
    hours due to a defined Hazard.
    Covered Expenses:
    (a) Any Additional Expenses incurred;
    (b) An Economy Fare from the point where the You ended Your Covered Trip to a destination where You can catch up to the Covered Trip; or
    (c) A one-way Economy Fare to return You to Your originally scheduled return destination."

    Although you are disappointed, travel insurance is not bogus. InsureMyTrip is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to assist you with selecting your plan. PLEASE BE AWARE. If you need to cancel your trip for an uncovered reason, no matter how far in advance you cancel, the policy, though unused, is completely nonrefundable. We paid over $500 for insurance and had to cancel our trip (for an uncovered reason) 5 months in advance and yet when we contacted customer service were informed no refund of any kind would be considered and the credit policy was worthless because we booked so far in advance. The policy has to be re-used for another trip within a year of the PURCHASE date. Because we booked so far in advance (10 months) there was no way for us to re-use this policy. We should at least be able to re-use this policy within one year of the trip date. Very disappointed. Even the airlines provided a partial refund of our non-refundable tickets (not expected but very much appreciated). Perhaps other company's have a more customer service friendly policy. We will be reading the fine print more closely and purchasing travel insurance closer to our trip date.

    When you purchased your Essential policy, Nationwide Mutual did include a 10 Day Review Period:

    "All premium is non-refundable after a 10 day review period. In the event the premium paid for coverage is less than the required premium for coverage, benefits will be paid in direct proportion of the actual amount paid to the required premium due."

    Since you canceled your trip for an uncovered reason back on 01/10/2019, you were well outside the 10 day review period so there would be no refund of your premium.

    However, as we advised you back on 01/10/2019, you could have used this policy for another trip as long and the new trip occurred prior to 08/10/2019 since Nationwide policies require that your departure date must be within 365 days of your original policy purchase date of 08/15/2018.

    Please call us at 800-487-4722 if you did schedule a new trip so that we can discuss changing the travel dates on this policy.

      Yes your policy was explained when I called. Our trip was scheduled for June 2018 but the policy had to be used by Aug 2018 our purchase date. We're unable to rebook within that timeframe so the credit is wortless. Had we had a year from the trip date (June 2018) it would have value. Hopefully others can benefit from our experience.

I had to file a very simple straightforward rather inexpensive claim. The communication is absolutely nil They do not respond to you at all. They send you a simple form response and tell you to wait 15 days. 15 business days that is. Whoever expects to have to wait 15 business days to have a simple claim adjudicated. Completely unreasonable. Not the only thing, they did not fully cover my loss. Something to the effect that it was over the limit. I broke my camera, and you're not going to cover the cost of a $273 camera? Over The limit? Not impressed. I would say if you can go with a different company, that is communicative. And covers your loss fully... Go with the other company

    Nationwide advises that your claim was received on 04/22/2019 claiming 273.27 USD for the camera. Your claim was received via email and an automated response would have been sent advising of the 15 business days. The claims representative then reviewed the claim on 05/03/2019. Payment was released on 05/06/2019 for the maximum benefit of 250 USD per article.

    We are sorry that you are unhappy with the maximum payment of 250 USD but the limitation is shown in your quote and can be reviewed prior to purchasing the policy:

    "Baggage and Personal Effects – Coverage is Secondary:
    Up to 600 USD / 250 USD per article limit; 500 USD combined maximum for specified items."

    "There will be a combined Maximum Benefit limit shown on the Confirmation of Coverage for the following: jewelry; watches; articles consisting in whole or in part of silver, gold or platinum; furs; articles trimmed with or made mostly of fur; cameras and their accessories and related equipment.”

    Even though you believe that the claim took too long to process, the claims representative settled your claim within 15 days of receiving your documents.
