Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
I always buy trip insurance before international trips, but I have never needed to file a claim before now. I bought the Travelex Travel Basic plan for a trip that we were supposed to take to Israel, but we were forced to cancel the trip due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions: Israel is requiring all travelers to self-quarantine for 14 days, and that would be impossible for us in a foreign country. I knew that the insurance policy would not cover coronavirus specifically, but the policy did indicate that it would cover certain "Unforeseen Events" causing trip cancellation or interruption, and one of those events was "You, or a Traveling Companion are hijacked, quarantined, subpoenaed, or required to serve on a jury." However, when I called Travelex they said that quarantine in this case only applies if we were quarantined at home and could not take the trip for that reason.
I understand that the coronavirus situation is unusual and that insurance companies don't want to pay out for all the trips that have had to be canceled as a result of travel restrictions, but I feel that there should be allowances made for these unforeseen events. If a traveler cannot make the trip because the country you are traveling to will not allow you in unless you can prove that you can self-quarantine for 2 weeks, the "quarantine" clause of the policy should allow for at least partial reimbursement of the cost of the trip.

Ended up cancelling our trip to Spain due to what has been going on with the coronavirus. Made the cancellation before the 10 day window expired. Spoke to customer service who advised there were no refunds for NY residents. This contradicted what was in the certificate online in my account. They said it was in the confirmation email which of course was buried in fine print. Having purchased multiple plans using this service in the past this was extremely frustrating. Had an easier time getting credit from the airline who were much more supportive. I will be looking elsewhere to purchase insurance for my future travels.

I was sick in Morocco and needed help in changing my flight to come home a few days later. Was unable to do so with booking agent after five hours of trying because of so many callers due to coronavirus concerns. I called the number listed on my policy for callers outside the US and could not get through. The number is either incorrect or incomplete. Really needed some help and could not reach anyone - very disappointed!

Please keep in mind, that due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Travelex, our assistance provider, and all travel supplier(s) are experiencing a very high volume of calls, and phone lines to travel suppliers around the world were over capacity (and thus sometimes not connecting), when you were in Morocco.
Having said the above, we would like to obtain further information so we can follow up with On Call International. This travel insurance plan contains good coverage for most aspects of our travel. In my opinion the price of travel insurance in general is too high. Five percent of the trip cost would be more reasonable than the normal ten percent.
Don’t need some of the coverages on the policy as we have the same insurance elsewhere.
We rarely needed to make a claim as we were able to reschedule cancelled trips with the trip provider with no loss of $$$$.
Do recommend travel insurance for the medical coverage as USA medical insurance does not cover you out of the country.
