I always buy trip insurance if I am going away for any extended length of time.....especially traveling by plane or cruise ship. The money spent is always worth the benefits received. Only 1 time have I had to use it while on a cruise. Having to take repeated trips to the ship's hospital for an upper respiratory infection plus breathing treatments....expenses add up fairly fast. After returning home I submitted my claims to my husbands group insurance and then to my trip insurance all charges, treatments and meds were paid in full. I always go to InsureMyTrip to compare companies and benefits! then I purchase my insurance on their website. InsureMyTrip offers time to look at the policy and cancel if you are not satisfied....an added benefit in todays economically depressed world.

After a trip to Timor Leste, I did require medical treatment in Singapore costing nearly $400. Because this travel insurance requires participation of my health insurer back home, I did not submit a claim. I would rather eat the cost than to fight with Blue Cross/Blue Shield about their share of the claim. It is not worth making a claim for anything less than a catastrophic illness or injury.
