It took many calls and repeated copies of trip cancellation before we received a refund of our trip deposit. The process took over 75 days for something that should have been quite simple and straight forward.

Customer Advocates are representatives assigned to assist customers who experience issues after filing a claim. We were disappointed that our request for compensation for one night's hotel stay was rejected out of hand because it was before the main trip. We took action to move two earlier connecting flights so that we could make the international flight on time. Our local airport was scheduled to close because of the impending snow storm on March 14. We took steps to mitigate the loss by taking an earlier flight. If we had been delayed for the 2 days that the airport was closed, there would have been major costs incurred which the insurer would have had to cover, plus we would have missed at least 4 days of our trip and an internal flight. The airline recognized the problem and waived the rebooking fees. We are disappointed that the insurer was not as reasonable.

Your website did not make it clear when I should purchase my plan. As a result, even after I queried the help desk and they replied, I did not buy my policy greater than 14 days before my trip. So, I paid more for it than a greater than 14 days before the trip policy I had found when searching earlier. Again, unclear that if you buy the policy more than two weeks before the trip, it is cheaper and you get a better selection of policy. Please make this more clear in your information.

We usually recommend that you purchase a plan within 10 to 21 days (depending on plan) of your Initial Trip Payment so you may qualify for any time-sensitive benefits, including but not limited to, the Preexisting Condition Waiver, Cancel for Any Reason and Financial Default coverage. However, you may choose to purchase any of our plans up to the day before you depart on your trip.
In answer to your comment on paying more for a plan within 14 days of departure, there really is only one company on our website offering two Comprehensive plans that may differ in premium depending on the date of purchase. All other Comprehensive plans, including AXA Assistance USA, base their premiums on age of traveler, trip cost and length of trip and do not increase or decrease the closer you get to departure.
We are inviting you to call Customer Care at (800) 487- 4722 at your convenience so that we can better explain the various plans and pricing with quote comparisons.

The Plan was OK but would not recommend AXA. We filed a claim and it took over 4 months to complete. This is much too long. The Claims Adjuster misinterpreted a particular piece of information and we had to file additional info (which we did). This delayed the whole process. Also, since we also filed a flight claim, AXA said there were issues because we could potentially utilize the flight credit up to a year's time. However, we finally worked this out but it took a lot of my time. Also, on at least 2 occasions, I had faxed or e-mailed information to AXA but in follow-up they said they never received. This whole process entailed a lot of time on my part.

While I think most plans are too expensive I am glad we had yours this time. We had no issues but we are aging and we never know what may happen en route during a vacation trip.
